When your passport is ready, the first question that usually comes to mind is: "Where can I go without applying for a visa?" The number of countries offering visa-free travel or visa-on-arrival/e-visa options for Turkish citizens is quite high. In this article, we have gathered popular routes that you can plan without dealing with the visa process by region. Important note: Visa practices, lengths of stay, and entry conditions may change by the decision of the countries; be sure to check the current status from the official sources of the relevant country and foreign ministry announcements before traveling.
First basic rule: passport and entry conditions
Visa-free travel means that your passport is valid, usually has at least six months of validity remaining after the return date, and you meet the other entry conditions of the country. Some countries may ask you to show a return ticket, accommodation document, or sufficient financial means. There are also a few countries that allow entry with an ID card; however, since these exceptions may change, traveling with a passport is always safer.
The Balkans: close, easy, and rich
The Balkan geography is one of the most popular visa-free regions for Turkish travelers due to both proximity and shared cultural ties. Serbia (Belgrade), Bosnia-Herzegovina (Sarajevo, Mostar), Montenegro (Kotor, Budva), Albania (Tirana, Berat), North Macedonia (Skopje, Ohrid), and Kosovo (Pristina, Prizren) have been among the countries that Turkish citizens can visit without a visa for many years. Do not forget to check the conditions before setting off. For detailed information about the routes, you can look at our Balkan tours.
Caucasus and Central Asia
Georgia (Tbilisi, Batumi, Kazbegi) and Azerbaijan (Baku) are frequently preferred for visa-free travel in the nearby geography. Uzbekistan (Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva) attracts culture tour lovers with its Silk Road heritage. Some of the other countries in Central Asia also grant conveniences to Turkish citizens; however, since each country's duration and conditions are different, they must be checked individually.
Middle East and North Africa
Countries such as the United Arab Emirates (Dubai, Abu Dhabi), Qatar, Morocco, and Tunisia are among popular destinations offering visa-free entry from time to time. In some countries like Egypt and Jordan, visa-on-arrival or e-visa applications may be available. Since these practices change frequently, verify both the conditions and the fee, if any, before the trip.
Far East and other continents
Some Asian countries such as Malaysia, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Singapore have periodically offered visa-free entry or entry with online pre-clearance for Turkish citizens. A visa-on-arrival option is generally available in the Maldives. Some countries in South America may also grant conveniences for the Turkish passport. Since there may be additional formalities such as pre-clearance and e-travel authorization on distant routes, it is important to research in advance.
Advantages of planning a visa-free trip
- Time: You can make more flexible and last-minute plans without the need for an appointment and paperwork process.
- Cost: You avoid visa fees and additional paperwork expenses.
- Short getaways: It becomes easier to find routes suitable for weekend or long weekend holidays.
